To the Squash Hunger 2021 Community,
Thank you all for growing and donating starts to Squash Hunger 2021. All the squash has been planted and we are starting to get pictures back from the growers. The total number of squash planted is well over 125 and that doesn’t include the summer squash donations that we distributed as well.
Squash Hunger 2021 has reached as far as Campbell River. Louis from Campbell River signed up as a grower and rather than disappoint him, we reached out to Chuck from Greenways Land Trust to support and mentor him in growing some of our squash plants in the school garden project he is running in CR. We’re happy for the squash grown through this partnership to be distributed within the Campbell River community.
Your support has been essential to this year’s Squash Hunger program. We truly appreciate it and we hope you’ll continue to participate by joining the Squash Hunger facebook group page and helping to respond to the questions and concerns posted by the growers. You can keep tabs on how those babies are doing by checking out the pictures there or by following along with our blog posts right here on the website. Two Squash Hunger tutorials have been posted to our website and 3 more are planned: Squash blossoms, Powdery Mildew; and Harvesting Squash. Look out for those in the coming months.
Enjoy some photos of happy squash plants tucked into their beds from our squash growers.
