After School Programs

Fall 2022 Programs

All programs are free for Lake Trail Community School students.

Registration in some programs is limited to Lake Trail students only. If there is space, we may open programs to students from other schools.

LTCES continues to follow Provincial COVID-19 Communicable Disease Guidelines for K-12 Settings as well as local school guidelines and protocols. We thank our participants and families in helping to keep our programs safe by following guidelines as outlined in our registration process.

Reading Buddies: Elementary

Grades 2 to 5

8 sessions running Wednesdays:
October 19 - December 7

3:30 pm - 4:30 pm


Note: We are happy to welcome students for the remaining sessions!

Reading Buddies pairs students from grades 2-5 who are looking to practice and improve their reading skills with a ‘big buddy’ teen volunteer. 

The program takes place at Lake Trail Community School.

Reading Buddies: Big Buddies

Grades 7 to 10

9 sessions running Wednesdays:
October 12 - December 7

3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Reading Buddies pairs students from grades 2-5 who are looking to practice and improve their reading skills with a 'big buddy' teen volunteer.

Big Buddies are role models who are interested in working with younger children and helping them develop a love of reading and learning.

Outdoor Education

Grades 6 & 7

6 sessions running Tuesdays:
October 11 - November 15


3:15 pm - 4:45 pm

Sometimes it's just good to get out into nature with friends, especially after a day of school. Let's let nature draw us in. Let's see what it inspires us to do. Most of all we want to be free to just be. Maybe we will tell stories, hear stories or maybe we will become a story. If we are lucky, maybe we will go on a quest, find some gold and wield swords... do you feel lucky? See you in the trees.

Art Exploration​

Grades 6 to 9

6 sessions running Thursdays:
October 20 - November 24


3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Creative adventures await! Participants will experiment with different materials, methods and styles, exploring their own creativity and ideas. We'll work on a range of activities and projects, including zine-making, collage re-mixes, nature sculptures, and creating Joy Bots.

Cooking Club

Grades 6 to 9

5 sessions running Mondays:
October 17 - November 14


3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Cooking and baking are great ways for kids to learn about foods and nutrition. In this after school program, participants will learn how to prepare tasty baked goods and snacks, and practice various techniques in the kitchen. Students will sample and take home what they make, so bring a container for leftovers!
