After School Programs

FALL and WINTER AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM REGISTRATION – 2021

Lake Trail Community School Students – Programs are free for Lake Trail students.

Grade 6 through 9 youth from other schools are welcome in some programs, dependent on space. 

Community Youth Programs – We are offering a few after school programs for younger community youth. There is a small fee for participants, with bursaries available if cost is a barrier.

Cooking Club - Full

Grades 6 to 9

Five week series running Mondays:
Oct. 25 - Nov. 22

3:30 pm - 5:00 pm


Learn how to prepare a variety of dishes utilizing local, seasonal ingredients and practicing various techniques. Students will sample and take home what they make, so bring a container for leftovers. Recipes include energy balls, smoothies, hummus and more!

A LTCES and Lush Valley collaboration, facilitated by Lisa Cristall, RD.

Priority for Lake Trail students. Open to outside youth depending on availability.

Theatre

Grades 6 to 9 - All community youth

Eight week series running Tuesdays:
Oct. 26 - Dec. 14

3:30 pm - 5:00 pm


A high energy program for beginner and intermediate students focusing on voice, movement and character development.

Facilitated by award-winning actor, playwright, director and teacher, Kymme Patrick.

Open to outside youth depending on availability.


Listen to Your Art

Grades 3 to 5 - All community youth

Four week series running Mondays:
Oct. 25 - Nov. 15 .

3:30 pm - 4:45 pm


Students will create exciting works of art using a variety of methods, while also trying out some fun dance and theatre games. 

Participants will be encouraged to use art as a means of self expression!

Facilitated by Anna Bechard, LTCES's fall student placement from Canada Summer Jobs.

Outdoor Education

Grades 6 to 7

Five week series running Tuesdays:

Nov. 2 - Nov.30

3:15 pm - 4:45 pm

Youth develop confidence, wilderness skills, and nature connection through hands-on learning in the forest.

Build shelters, identify and get curious about animal tracks, explore compasses, mapping, making tea from the wild, land art, and more!

In partnership with Hand in Hand Nature Education, with Nature Educator, Sofi Czich.

Robotics

Grade 6 to 9

Eight week series running Wednesdays:
Oct. 27 - Dec. 15

3:15 pm - 4:15 pm


Join fun and exciting challenges that strengthen our grasp of science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. Develop team-building skills as we discover more about the world of robotics!

Facilitated by Lake Trail Community School Educator, William Bakker.

Rotary Interact

Grades 6 to 9

Starting October 21, and ongoing each Thursday.

INTERACT CLUBS bring together young people ages 12 – 18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self.

Students at Lake Trail Community School have the opportunity to find out how serious leadership can be seriously FUN by joining this Courtenay Rotary sponsored club.
